Helsinki and Espoo are known to have great access to nature with many nature reserves, national parks and hundreds of kilometres of shoreline. Among these Laajalahti is one of the most accessible nature reserves and a great bird wetland within the Helsinki-Espoo metropolis area. The nature reserve’s hiking trails and bird watching towers offer beautiful views and perfect services for a day trip. It is a fantastic place to observe birds both during migration and at other times. It is also a great place for hiking, enjoying the urban nature and the outdoors at a very accessible area.

In the Laajalahti Nature Reserve Walk, we will walk on the shoreline through the groves and meadows, make stops at the bird watching towers and at Villa Elfvik. The beautiful Art Nouveau villa is City of Espoo’s environmental education centre stands on the edge of the Laajalahti Nature Reserve. The best period to enjoy the meadows and the scenery is between April and September.

This tour is a great way to experience urban nature with beautiful surroundings in a very accessible area. You will see the wildlife, breath the fresh air, savour the tranquillity of the landscape, and maybe have a chance to meet a cow or two!

Meeting point:

Our meeting point for the tour is Aalto University metro stop. We will meet at the exit of the metro stop. You can easily reach this stop via metro/subway from Kamppi Shopping Mall or Central Railway Station in 15 minutes. Our tour will end at Saunalahdentie tram stop for tram no 4. The tram will take you to city center in 20-25 minutes through Mannerheimintie

Things to note:

We will be walking around 7.5 kilometers, comfortable hiking or walking shoes and extra layers for warmth are recommended.

The tours are done between April and September. In case of bad weather conditions tour may be postponed or cancelled.

The tour is not wheelchair accessible.
